Ok, we have all the parts laying around now (ARTiGo, Laptop, Spark CD). Time to get the SparkStation setup.
Most everyone out there has installed a piece of software on Windows. This isn't much different.
- Insert VS 2005 CD disk 1 and close the drive, this launches the setup. Follow the setup steps. That gets VS 2005 installed.
- NOTE: The second step of the VS installer is to install the MSDN, but there are no MSDN bits on the spark disks so you won't be able to do that.
- Then you need to install CE 6.0 to get the OS components and the CPU files. As we are using an x86 based board be sure and select that as your CPU to install.
- You also need VS SP1 which can be found by doing a windows update.
- You also need VS SP1 update for Vista which is at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=90E2942D-3AD1-4873-A2EE-4ACC0AACE5B6&displaylang=en
- Before you can install the R2 updates you will need to install CE6 SP1. This is a download only item and you will have to get it from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=BF0DC0E3-8575-4860-A8E3-290ADF242678&displaylang=en
- Once that is done you need to put in the WinCE 6 R2 disk to install the R2 updates.
One additional thing we want to do is install the Board Support Package (BSP) for the ARTiGO board. This is the glue between the OS and the hardware that lets us access the customized features of the board. As the ARTiGO is at it's core a x86 PC we could just use the generic CE x86 BSP but it wouldn't be optimized for the hardware. We can get the BSP from the VIA site http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=41&CatID=3020 you want the "VIA x86 Board Support Package" BSP download.
Once that is all done we can start making OS solutions. And that is what we will do next time.
