Device Setup

Now that we have our image ready it's time to get the device hooked up so we can download the image.

The ARTiGO is really just a small PC so set it up as such (mouse / keyboard / display) for now.  In my setup I am using a USB keyboard and mouse. Using them on CE does require you to select the USB HID catalog item (from PB catalog view enter USB as the search criteria and keep going next until you see USB Keyboard/mouse and then select that)

Network cable should go to a hub which has some form of DHCP available (on the same subnet as your development PC)

The serial cable is a good thing to connect initially, this will let you see the bootme messages and figure out if the bootloader is working correctly.  This should be connected to a PC with a terminal window available. You can use the one included with CE by doing Biuld-> open command window and then typing CETERM. The default 38,000 buad setting should work.

For booting I am using a USB floppy driver which I copied a CE boot drive image onto.  The default eboot.bin on that image was replace by the one that came with the ARTiGO bsp install.

Turn on the device and watch the serial output, this should start spewing bootloader information. Watch for a message which tells you what the name of the device is.  Something like CEPC12345.

In PB you need to open a connection to the device:

  1. Target -> Connectivity options
  2. This will bring up the Target Device Connectivity Options dialog (note this might start behind visual studio)
  3. Add Device ( named mine ARTiGO)
  4. This will return you to the TDCO dialog, click the settings button on the Kernel Download part.  This will bring up the "Ethernet Download Settings" dialog.  If the device is still sending out bootme messages the device name should show up in the dialog automatically.  If not enter the name of the device. Then click OK.
  5. Once again back at the TDCO dialog, click apply and then close.

Reboot the device as it has probably stopped sending out bootme messages.

Now back in VS do Target -> Attach Device

The download dialog should appear and once the device send out bootme's the image should start to download.

 If all has gone well your device will boot and you should get a desktop displayed on your device monitor.

Next we start trying to get the USB webcam working.
