The Bowman's Assistant
Rowing is a popular sport where one to nine participants row in sync to propel a 25 to 60 foot boat known as a shell. The bowman, who sits in the front of the shell, could be considered the captain. The bowman must steer the shell with voice calls to the crew. Additional bowman tasks include navigating the course, avoiding obstacles and other shells in the race, and maintaining the stability of the shell.
This embedded system will be worn by the bowman and will integrate and display crew and shell performance data.

The Smart Pill - An intelligent medication dispenser
Prescription medications are powerful chemicals that must be administered and taken with care. Keeping track of the vast information surrounding these medications and managing them correctly can be a daunting task. The Smart Pill is my name for a device that addresses many of the issues surrounding medication errors. It combines disparate technologies into a machine that recognizes a patient’s medications, understands the pharmaceutical information, and helps the user take the correct medication at the right time.

Home Brain System (HBS)
As more devices in the home become network enabled, the home will need a central nervous system to handle all of them, and allow them to function together based on the occupants’ wants and needs. Like a human body, the home’s central nervous system will be comprised of numerous sensors, which will feed into the home’s brain, providing it the input needed to make decisions about the environment. The home needs to not only make decisions when people are home to interact with it, but also when there is no one home, it is night time or people are asleep.

Computing at a Glance
Ambient computing, or taking the computing world and projecting it into physical objects has had some success but remains mostly research and “toy” oriented, and even more cripplingly remains a mostly one way communication . This project’s goal is to extend that into a natural free flowing two way interface, primarily through using eye motion as a prime indicator of interest, and a few simple, natural gestures.
